Online Scheduling Software: Myth Busters

As Software As A Service (SAAS) has gained in popularity throughout the years, more and more businesses are turning to these solutions as opposed to traditional software or even as an alternative to the good old fashioned way - doing things manually. Online scheduling software has particularly made its mark in the service sector as clients happily "auto-book" their appointments through the web from the comfort of their own homes.

But even as the users of online scheduling software sing its praise, myths continue to flourish and I am here to cast away the doubts on 3 popular myths. Here we go...

1 - Online Scheduling Software is only for medium and large businesses.

While some larger organizations may use Online Scheduling Software, those that stand to benefit the most are small businesses, particularly those that use paper agendas or personal calendars to manage their businesses appointments. Furthermore, most SAAS online booking providers offer cost effective packages ranging from $0 to $50 per month, making it more than affordable for smaller businesses. In fact, this type of software streamlines processes so efficiently often avoiding the costly expense of having to hire additional manpower over the long run.

2 - I can handle everything a scheduling software does.

Sure you can juggle answering the phone, booking appointments, rescheduling appointments, reminding/confirming appointments. You can coordinate the schedules for your part-time/full-time/temp employees. All this, while offering your client services. Most small business owners have being doing these tasks since the beginning of time. So I don't doubt you. But as a small business owner or manager, should you be handling it all yourself? Are there not more important responsibilities that you should be looking over? Today, there is no reason for anyone to have to dedicate a substantial fraction of their work hours to perform tasks that can be done automatically. Owners and Managers are most effective when they are actively involved with operations instead of being relegated to performing tedious jobs.

3 - Online Scheduling Software will make some employees redundant.

Small business owners are sometimes reluctant to take on software that would take away the work of some employees. Also, many receptionists when included in discussions about whether to purchase such software, fear that they are trying to be replaced. The purpose of online scheduling software is not to replace existing staff but rather to optimize their tasks so that they can take on more interesting and valuable responsibilities. For example, a receptionist could have more face time with clients by being available to greet them instead of being interrupted by the phone. They could potentially also talk about promotions or products that you sell which complement your services.

It's normal to be fearful of something that is new or different. And perhaps online scheduling software is not for you. However, I believe it is worth examining the facts and maybe even taking advantage of a free trial from one of the many SAAS scheduling providers. Don't buy into popular myths. See for yourself!
